Intro to Murrine

For over three thousand years, glass artists have been incorporating murrine, "picture cane" into their work. Working from inside out artists create an image within a cane. Floral Encasements

Introduction to Beads:
Over 5 weeks we will explore the basic techniques necessary to make beads out of glass. Techniques to be covered include: applying glass to mandrel (steel rod), basic bead shapes, and design elements including; dots, lines, stringers, raking, twisting, twisty cane and color combinations. Expect to come away from this course with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of making glass beads on a torch. *No experience necessary. $250
Introduction to Lamp Work:
Over five weeks we will explore basic techniques for manipulating glass in the flame. Using an oxygen/ propane torch we will melt soda-lime glass rods to create: beads, marbles, figures, murrine, and Christmas ornaments. If you have ideas we'll figure out how to make them in glass. *No experience necessary. $250
Class Availability
About our Classes
All three day workshops taught at Studio 9990 in Fairplay, Colorado. Lodging arrangements available upon request. Tuition for each class includes all materials necessary for completion of class projects and lunch for each day. Work at you own pace. You will have access to the studio from 8:00 am until midnight so if you need a break to take a hike, snow shoe, or otherwise play it's no big deal. Demos at 10:00 am, 2:00 pm, and after dinner with open studios and open instruction in between. If you are into alpine sports arrange to spend a day before or after the class on one of the world class ski resorts just a 1/2 hour drive over the pass. Discounted ski passes can be obtained through the studio and Brett would be glad to take you to the best snow available. Maximum class size is 5.
